Base64 Encoder & Decoder

Encode UTF-8 text and files as Base64, or decode strings and data URIs back into text or files.

0 characters · 0 bytes

Key features

  • Encodes UTF-8 text as standard Base64 or unpadded URL-safe Base64.
  • Decodes standard and URL-safe Base64 strings into UTF-8 text.
  • Reads files as raw Base64 and MIME-bearing data URIs.
  • Restores Base64 or data URIs as downloadable files with image previews when applicable.

How to use

  1. Choose the Text or File tab.
  2. Provide the value to encode or paste Base64 to decode.
  3. Copy the result or download the restored file.

Examples

  • Inspect an API payload

Encode UTF-8 text as Base64 or decode a received value into readable text.

  • Convert files and data URIs

Create a Base64 data URI from a file or download Base64 data as a file again.

Privacy

Text encoding and file reading or restoration run in your browser; text-tab input and settings are kept in that browser's local storage.

Requirements

Large files can use substantial browser memory during Base64 conversion.

Common questions

Are non-Latin text and emoji encoded correctly?
Yes. Text is converted to UTF-8 bytes before Base64 encoding and restored as UTF-8 when decoded.
Does it support URL-safe Base64?
Text mode can produce URL-safe output, and the decoder normalizes URL-safe input containing - and _.
