HTML Entity Encoder & Decoder

HTML Entity Encoder & Decoder

Convert HTML-sensitive characters to named, decimal, or hexadecimal entities and decode entities with the browser table.

HTML entity encoder / decoder
Convert characters such as <, >, &, ", and ' to HTML entities, or decode named and numeric entities back to characters. All processing happens in your browser.

Key features

  • Encodes &, <, >, and double quotes as named entities, and apostrophes as '.
  • Can encode sensitive and non-ASCII characters as decimal or hexadecimal numeric entities.
  • Decodes named entities plus &#NN; and &#xNN; numeric references into characters.

How to use

  1. Choose Encode or Decode mode.
  2. For encoding, select the entity notation.
  3. Enter text and copy the result.

Examples

  • Display an HTML example safely

Encode tag characters so documentation shows the markup literally.

  • Read entity-encoded text

Restore copied HTML entity strings to readable characters.

Privacy

HTML entity conversion uses browser string and DOM features.

Common questions

Can it encode every character as an entity?
The default mode converts HTML-sensitive characters such as &, <, >, and quotes; full encoding also turns non-ASCII characters into numeric entities.
Are numeric entities decoded too?
Yes. Named entities and decimal or hexadecimal numeric entities are restored using browser DOM rules.
