SHA Hash and File Checksum Generator

Calculate SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 checksums for text or local files at once.

Hash generator
Calculate SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 hashes for text or files directly in your browser.

Key features

  • Computes SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 together.
  • Accepts both UTF-8 text and local file input.
  • Displays each digest as lowercase or uppercase hexadecimal for individual copying.

How to use

  1. Choose the Text or File tab.
  2. Enter content or select a file.
  3. Copy the SHA checksum you need.

Examples

  • Verify a download

Calculate a file's SHA-256 digest and compare it with the checksum published by the distributor.

  • Check a string hash

Confirm the SHA output of a UTF-8 string used in an API or test vector.

Privacy

Hashes are calculated with the browser's Web Crypto API, and selected files are read in the browser.

Requirements

A modern browser with Web Crypto is required; SHA-1 is suited to legacy checksum compatibility rather than secure signatures.

Common questions

Can I hash both text and files?
Yes. Text is hashed as UTF-8 bytes, while files are read as bytes in the browser. SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 are available.
Can a hash restore the original file?
No. A hash is a one-way digest. Use it to compare a file with a known checksum.
