Key features

  • Counts Unicode code points with and without whitespace.
  • Reports words, lines, paragraphs, and approximate sentences.
  • Calculates the UTF-8 encoded byte size.
  • Estimates reading time from an adjustable 50–500 words-per-minute rate.

How to use

  1. Type or paste the text to analyze.
  2. Review the statistics and adjust reading speed if needed.
  3. Copy the full statistics summary.

Examples

  • Check draft length

Inspect characters with and without spaces, plus words, sentences, paragraphs, and lines.

  • Estimate UTF-8 size

Check the encoded byte count before sending text to an API or storage field.

Privacy

Character, word, and byte statistics are calculated in your browser.

Requirements

Words are whitespace-delimited, so unspaced CJK text may be counted as a single word.

Common questions

How are emoji and combined characters counted?
Character count uses Unicode code points. A single-code-point emoji counts as one, while ZWJ, skin-tone, flag, and other multi-code-point sequences count each component.
Can I change the reading-speed assumption?
Yes. Select a rate from 50 to 500 words per minute to recalculate estimated reading time.
