Remove PDF Metadata | Clear Author, Dates, and XMP

Remove PDF Metadata | Clear Author, Dates, and XMP

Create a browser-only copy without common PDF document-info fields or the catalog XMP metadata reference.

Key features

  • Inspects title, author, subject, keywords, Creator, Producer, and creation/modification dates.
  • Removes the document Info reference from the PDF trailer and its referenced object.
  • Removes the Metadata reference from the document catalog and its referenced XMP stream.
  • Downloads a new PDF copy while retaining page count and visible page content.

How to use

  1. Choose a PDF no larger than 50,000,000 bytes or 200 pages and review detected common metadata.
  2. Read the cleanup boundary and note that this is not complete anonymization.
  3. Download the browser-rewritten PDF without the targeted Info and XMP groups.

Examples

  • Clean properties before external sharing

Remove common author, creator application, and creation/modification date fields exposed by document properties.

  • Reduce catalog XMP in a public copy

Create a new PDF without the XMP packet linked by a content-management application's document catalog.

Privacy

The original PDF and cleaned copy are handled only in browser memory and are never uploaded to or retained by a server.

Requirements

This is a common Info/XMP cleanup, not forensic anonymization. It does not guarantee removal of attachments, annotations, form values, visible text/images, every trace of incremental history, or nonstandard application objects.

Common questions

Does every piece of personal data disappear?
No. The cleanup targets common Info and catalog XMP. Body content, annotations, attachments, forms, and application-specific data need separate review.
Does this change page quality?
Pages are not rasterized or redrawn. The PDF structure is serialized into a new file, so its bytes will differ from the source.
