Extract Text from PDF | Convert Selectable Text to TXT

Extract selectable PDF text page by page, copy it, or save up to five million characters as a plain-text file.

This tool reads only selectable text stored in the PDF. It does not recognize text inside scanned images or reconstruct paragraph and table layout.

Key features

  • Uses PDF.js to read selectable text already stored in the document.
  • Adds numbered separators between pages so multi-page output remains traceable.
  • Copies the result directly or downloads it as a UTF-8 plain-text file.
  • Reports pages with no selectable text and links to the existing OCR tool.

How to use

  1. Choose one application/pdf file no larger than 50,000,000 bytes or 200 pages.
  2. Start extraction and follow the page-by-page progress indicator.
  3. Review the result, copy it to the clipboard, or download a TXT file.

Examples

  • Reuse document wording

Move selectable report or guide content into plain text for search, summarization, or drafting.

  • Search a long packet quickly

Download page-separated TXT and find a phrase in a code editor or notes application.

Privacy

The document is read only in your browser, and extracted text stays in the current tab's memory instead of being sent to a server.

Requirements

Output is capped at 5,000,000 characters. Images of text are not OCRed, tables and column layout are not reconstructed exactly, and font encodings can affect reading order.

Common questions

Does this read text from a scanned PDF?
An image-only page has no selectable text to extract. Follow the OCR link in the warning to recognize text in the image.
Are tables and paragraph formatting preserved?
No. The output is plain text, so complex columns, tables, fonts, and visual formatting are not retained.
