Image Metadata Remover

Remove EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, and text metadata from JPEG, PNG, and WebP files in your browser without re-encoding pixels.

Processed only in your browser
No pixel re-encoding

Key features

  • Removes EXIF and XMP APP1 segments plus IPTC APP13 metadata from JPEG files.
  • Removes PNG eXIf and tEXt, zTXt, and iTXt text chunks.
  • Removes WebP EXIF and XMP chunks while correcting the RIFF size and VP8X feature flags.
  • Keeps compressed pixel data byte-for-byte without decoding or re-encoding it, and retains ICC color profiles.
  • Reports each removed metadata group, section count, and exact byte savings.

How to use

  1. Choose or drop a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image up to 50 MB.
  2. Select Remove metadata to validate the actual file signature and container boundaries.
  3. Review the EXIF, XMP, IPTC, or PNG text groups removed and the resulting byte savings.
  4. Download the cleaned image with its ICC profile and original compressed pixels retained.

Examples

  • Clean GPS before sharing

Create a copy without standard EXIF location and capture details before posting a phone photo to a chat or community.

  • Prepare portfolio images

Reduce author and editing details left in XMP or IPTC by creative applications before public distribution.

  • Clean PNG files for the web

Remove text and EXIF chunks from screenshots or design exports while retaining their IDAT pixel data.

  • Deliver color-sensitive assets

Keep the ICC profile and avoid rebuilding compressed pixels to prevent accidental recompression or color-profile loss.

Privacy

Reading, signature validation, and metadata removal all run in the current browser. The image is not uploaded to a server, and temporary download URLs are released when you replace the result or leave the page.

Requirements

For JPEG, the tool removes EXIF/XMP APP1 and APP13; for PNG, eXIf and standard text chunks; for WebP, EXIF and XMP chunks. ICC color profiles are deliberately retained, but EXIF orientation is removed too, so photos that depend on that tag can appear rotated in some viewers. HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, SVG, arbitrary trailing data, proprietary nonstandard sections, visible text or faces, and steganography are outside its scope. Damaged files and files over 50 MB produce no output.

Common questions

Will image quality change?
There is no recompression loss because the compressed pixel payload is copied unchanged. EXIF orientation is removed too, so a photo that relies on that tag can appear rotated in some viewers.
Does it delete the ICC color profile?
No. JPEG APP2, PNG iCCP, and WebP ICCP profiles are retained to reduce unintended changes in color appearance.
Will GPS location be removed?
GPS stored inside standard EXIF is removed with the EXIF section. This tool does not detect an address visible in the image or data stored in a proprietary location.
Does this guarantee every piece of private information is gone?
No. It removes the listed standard metadata sections. You must separately check visible content, filenames, proprietary data, and information hidden in pixels.
