Video Frame Extractor and Thumbnail Maker

Capture video frames at chosen times or intervals, download selected images as a ZIP, or make a contact sheet. Process locally without uploading your video.

0/30 images · 0.0/64 MiB (originals)

Captured frames and contact sheets appear here. Download any images you need before leaving the page.

Key features

  • Extracts the frame your browser presents near a timestamp entered in seconds.
  • Combines 4, 9, or 16 evenly spaced scenes from the complete duration into one contact-sheet image.
  • Exports PNG and uses JPEG or WebP only when the browser's actual encoded MIME matches the requested format.
  • Preserves the browser-presented orientation and aspect ratio while bounding output memory and dimensions.
  • Retains captures in a gallery with individual downloads and deletion, plus a ZIP of selected images.
  • Offers ±1/±5-second seeking and collapsed interval capture settings; completed images remain after cancellation.

How to use

  1. Choose or drop one browser-playable video up to 500 MB.
  2. Use the preview, time field, or slider to choose a position and select an image format.
  3. Choose a single frame, contact sheet, or interval capture. For intervals, check the start, end, step, and planned count.
  4. Review requested and presented times, dimensions, and actual format, then download individual images or create and download a ZIP of your selection.

Examples

  • Make a representative thumbnail

Save a specific moment from an uploaded video as a PNG, JPEG, or WebP thumbnail.

  • Scan a video's contents

Review evenly spaced scenes in one image to understand a long video's progression quickly.

  • Prepare a frame review

Extract separate images at regular intervals and bundle only the scenes you need into a ZIP for review or sharing.

Privacy

The source video and extracted images stay in the current browser's memory and are never uploaded.

Requirements

Files are limited to 500 MB and the current browser must be able to play their container and codecs. Extraction reports the frame presented near a requested time, not a codec-level frame number. A single image and the complete contact sheet are limited to 4,096px on either axis and 16,777,216 pixels. The gallery holds up to 30 images and 64 MiB of originals; leaving or reloading the page clears it. Capture intervals must be at least 0.1 seconds and exclude the end time.

Common questions

Is my video uploaded?
No. File reading, frame presentation, canvas encoding, and download preparation all happen in the current browser.
Can I select an exact frame number?
No. The tool captures the frame the browser presents near the requested time and reports its actual presented time.
Why did I get PNG instead of JPEG or WebP?
When the browser cannot verify an image encoded with the requested MIME, the tool makes one safe PNG fallback.
How does interval capture differ from a contact sheet?
Interval capture creates separate images within a chosen range, which you can select and download as a ZIP. A contact sheet combines 4, 9, or 16 scenes from the full video into one image.
