Video Metadata Inspector

Video Metadata Inspector

Inspect container, codec, bitrate, resolution, audio, subtitles, and recorded location in MP4, MOV, WebM, and other videos locally.

Choose a video file to begin.

Key features

  • Organizes container and video, audio, and subtitle codec details by track.
  • Shows rotation-aware display dimensions, aspect ratio, frame rate, and bitrate.
  • Strictly validates location tags before offering coordinate copy and Google Maps search or directions links.
  • Copies a concise report or the full normalized result and downloads JSON.
  • Sends validated dimensions, duration, FPS, and MIME to the mock media generator.

How to use

  1. Choose or drop one video up to 2 GB.
  2. Press Analyze metadata to start the local MediaInfo parser.
  3. Review the overview, tracks, privacy-related fields, warnings, and Raw JSON.
  4. Copy useful values or reports, and open an external map only when intended.

Examples

  • Check codec compatibility

Identify the actual video and audio codecs and profiles in a delivered MP4 or MOV file.

  • Review capture privacy

See whether location, device, authoring application, or timestamp values remain before sharing.

  • Document media specifications

Record dimensions, frame rate, bitrate, and track layout in a normalized JSON report.

Privacy

Analysis uses 1 MiB range reads in your browser and never uploads the file. Coordinates appear in an external URL only when you deliberately open a Google Maps link.

Requirements

Analyzes files up to 2 GB, including common MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, MPEG, and TS families. Proprietary or encrypted formats and some vendor fields may be unsupported. Parser success does not guarantee browser playback. The tool is read-only and cannot remove or edit metadata.

Common questions

Is my video uploaded?
No. Same-origin MediaInfo WASM reads only required 1 MiB ranges in your browser.
Can this remove metadata?
No. The inspector is read-only and never rewrites the source file.
Will every parsed video play in my browser?
No. MediaInfo may understand a container whose codec your browser cannot decode.
